DAY 12–GIBRALTAR
This turned out to be one of our favorite ports of all time. The views. The history. The primates. Wow. Just wow.
We walked into town from the port to explore. It was about a 15-20 minute walk. There wasn’t a whole lot to explore, shopping wise. So, we grabbed a quick drink at a pub and then walked to our assigned location to meet our 4 new friends for a private tour. Kim from Texas had arranged the tour. She and her husband William are farmers. We love them. We were joined by Dave and Cindy (not a couple, just traveling buddies). They were all great tour companions.
Our tour guide, Carl. was a lifetime resident of Gibraltar and was a consummate professional. The WW II tunnels were closed for repairs. We were bummed about that. But, our tour was fantastic and included Old Town, Pillars of Hercules, St. Michaels Cave, the Top of the Rock with skywalk and monkeys, Moorish Castle, the Great Siege Tunnels and the Windsor Suspension Bridge. Melissa and I are not crazy about heights but we both walked across the swaying suspension bridge. She would not stop for a photo but I did. I will let the photos speak for themselves.
Loved Gibraltar!!!
Martha, that seems to be the consensus! Everyone loved it. We can definitely see ourselves stopping there again.
